ETIAS Travel Authorization for Uruguayan Citizens
The EU announced in 2016 that it would establish a new travel authorization screening process for non-EU citizens traveling to Europe. Similar to the U.S. ESTA system, this system will strengthen border security and make obtaining permission to travel to the EU more accessible. All Uruguayan citizens who travel to Schengen states will require
an ETIAS visa waiver. The ETIAS will be in effect at the end of 2025. This measure is part of a broader effort to secure the Schengen area from terrorist attacks and increase safety for locals and tourists. When traveling to Europe, all Uruguayans will need to apply to an ETIAS.
