ETIAS Application Validity, Processing, and stay duration for Tonga
Most ETIAS requests will be approved within 24 hours after payment of processing fees. Manual processing may be necessary if the Tongan citizen’s information is relevant during screening against international security databases.
Designated European agents will manually revise the applicant’s information, in this case, to determine if they are a threat to the EU. Tongan ETIAS application manual processing can take up to 3 business days. It is best to apply for an ETIAS to Tonga at least three days before your travel date. After approval, the ETIAS will be granted multiple entries into the Schengen Area for its three-year validity. ETIAS will remain valid so long as the Tongan passport used for the application remains current. If the passport expires before the ETIAS’ three years are up, the Tongan citizen must apply for a new ETIAS with the data from their new passport. This is an easy and quick process that takes less than 10 minutes. Tongans can stay for 90 days in the ETIAS. This is for a period of 180 days. Depending on the needs of the traveler, the 90-day stay in the Schengen Area can be consecutive or not.
After the 90-day stay in the Schengen Area ends, Tongans will need to spend the next 90 nights outside the Schengen Area.

The ETIAS will cross-check the data of applicants against multiple security databases, including SIS and VIS, EURODAC. Interpol. Tonga citizens who are not considered a threat to the European Union will automatically receive travel authorization. The designated Frontex agents and local European governmental authorities will manually review the data of those travelers who threaten the European Union’s or its residents’ safety. The ETIAS protects individuals with ties to terrorists, drug trafficking, or severe crime beyond the Schengen borders.
