ETIAS Travel Authorization for Palauans
From late 2025 onwards, citizens of Palau will be required to apply for the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) to travel to countries in the Schengen Area of Europe.
Palauans will be able to visit any Schengen country for up to 90 days using the newly created visa waiver practice for traveling in Europe.
Citizens of Palau can presently exercise the benefits of the visa-free program. This means they do not need a visa to enter the Schengen Area’s 26 countries.
All Palauans and nationals of other visa-exempt nations coming to the Schengen area will be required to use the ETIAS visa waiver once it is implemented. They will be allowed to reside in the following European countries for 90 days.
By pre-screening tourists to identify any potential hazards, the ETIAS will strengthen the safety of the Schengen Area. Visiting the European countries will thus be more secure, with additional benefits for overseas visitors.

With ETIAS, how long may Palau citizens stay in Europe?
After registering with ETIAS, Palauan citizens can travel to Europe without a visa. They will only need a legit passport and documentation of their ETIAS approval to do so. However, foreign nationals can only stay in the Schengen zone for a specific time. Palau citizens are permitted to visit the Schengen zone and reside in or move to any of its member nations for up to three months during the 180 days. The 90 day period may not be consecutive. A tourist can visit multiple Schengen countries in 180 days, as long as the total time spent in Schengen nations during all visits does not surpass 90 days. For instance, a traveler may spend one month in the United Kingdom, two months outside the Schengen Area, and then go to Germany for 60 days. If a Palauan stays in the Schengen zone for 90 days using ETIAS and then leaves, they must wait another 90 days before applying for another ETIAS. Palauans who desire to stay more than the indicated time above must obtain a visa or a resident permit at an embassy. Once accepted, the ETIAS is valid for three years. You have the authority to use it for several visits throughout that time.

Is a visa required for citizens of Palau to go to Europe?
Travelers from Palau do not require a visa to enter any Schengen country if they meet the requirements:
• The visitor owns a passport that must be valid for the next three months. The visit will not be for more than 90 days.
• The visit to Europe will be for tourist or commercial purposes. The visitor will not be working or studying there.
• Palauans visiting for educational or work purposes in European states should first get the necessary visas or permissions.
• Those planning to be in the Schengen Area for 90 days should instead acquire a Schengen visa.
This will remain the case whenever the ETIAS is launched.
Traveling to the countries of the Schengen zone as a tourist or for business will allow Palauans to reside visa-free as long as they do not stay more than 90 days during the 180 days.
However, there will be an additional requirement, which means that they must also register with ETIAS.
ETIAS is a travel permission system akin to the ESTA or eTA in the United States and Canada, respectively.
Registering with ETIAS is more straightforward than applying for a visa. The initial step for tourists coming from Palau is to fill out an online ETIAS registration form. This process is quick and straightforward. It eliminates the requirement for a standard visa, which requires a visit to an embassy.
The only document Palauan citizens require to travel to Europe’s Schengen Area until the ETIAS is established is a legitimate passport.
However, it is crucial to remember that the Schengen Agreement does not apply to all European countries. Various European countries, notably Great Britain, Ireland, France, and Serbia, have separate border control and immigration regulations and different visa systems.
Before arranging a vacation to Europe, Palauan nationals must verify that the state they are planning on visiting falls under the list of Schengen states. They need to make sure they submit their information for the proper papers for that country.
