ETIAS Travel Authorization for Nicaraguans
Beginning in late 2025, all nationals visiting Europe from Nicaragua for business or tourism will be required to apply for a new European travel authorization, dubbed an ETIAS visa waiver. The ETIAS EU visa waiver program, which stands for European Travel Information and Authorisation System, was established by agreement between the European Council and European Parliament to address Europe’s security and immigration concerns. Nicaraguan passport holders will be able to visit all 26 Schengen member states under the new ETIAS visa waiver. This includes the 22 EU member states and four non-EU member states — Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland — that are currently part of the Schengen zone.

Travel Requirements for Nicaraguan Citizens
Nicaraguans currently do not require to apply for any type of European visa, including the Schengen visa, when visiting Europe for tourism or business on a short-term basis. On the other hand, Schengen member countries are developing highly secured systems and protocols to simplify travel document checks and bolster border control. This is why the new ETIAS visa waiver program was established.
The new EU visa waiver policy will take effect in late 2025. At that point, nationals will be required to submit an application for an ETIAS visa waiver for Nicaraguans that meets the EU’s migration standards to enter the Schengen zone.
To be eligible for an ETIAS visa waiver for Europe, applicants must meet all applicable ETIAS requirements.
For Nicaraguans, these include the following:
• To begin, applicants must possess a valid Nicaraguan passport with a minimum validity of three months beyond the intended stay.
• Each citizen’s passport information will be required to complete an application for a European travel authorization for Nicaraguan citizens.
• Additionally, an ETIAS fee must be paid via the online application system, which requires the use of a valid credit or debit card.
• Finally, tourists must provide a valid email address to which the approved EU travel authorization for Nicaraguan citizens can be sent.

How Nicaraguans can apply for ETIAS
Nicaraguan citizens can apply online for a Europe visa waiver by simply accessing the ETIAS application and completing the form provided.
The form will request basic personal information and standard travel and documentation information.
The ETIAS travel authorization application form may include the following questions:

Nicaraguan citizens will also be required to respond to basic security questions about their health and immigration history to comply with European law.

• Recent criminal history
• Occupational history

The responses to the preceding questions will then be checked against international criminal and information databases to ensure that the information provided is accurate and conforms to Schengen security standards.
Finally, applicants must indicate which Schengen country they intend to visit first in the application form.
In most cases, the application will be submitted online and screened electronically, allowing for a quick turnaround time on approvals.
Most applications will be approved within hours, if not minutes, and the ETIAS approval will be sent to the applicant’s provided email address. However, it is prudent to apply well before the scheduled departure.
As a result, Nicaraguan citizens are advised to submit their EU travel authorization application at least three days before travel.
Making the journey from Nicaragua to Europe
Nicaraguan nationals will be able to apply online for an ETIAS visa waiver for less than 90 days in Europe, which will grant them access to the Schengen zone and freedom of movement between ETIAS member countries.
To enhance security and protect the external Schengen zone border against potential terrorist threats and health risks and gain a better handle on international migration, the EU launched the ETIAS European visa waiver, which Nicaraguans can apply for via a simple online application before entering the EU bloc.
Nicaraguan citizens will be able to visit any of the EU countries included in the program for the duration of the travel authorization’s three-year validity or until the corresponding passport expires.
All individuals over the age of 18 will be required to apply for an ETIAS visa waiver before traveling to Europe from Nicaragua. Visitors need to follow these guidelines and apply for the application on time to avoid any unnecessary delays or complications during their trip to Europe.
Nicaraguan travelers should print a copy of the ETIAS visa waiver and bring it with them to the airport.
They will then be required to present the valid ETIAS authorization and the passport used for the application to European border control officers upon arrival.
Please remember that obtaining an ETIAS visa waiver is not a guarantee to the Schengen area. The European authorities have the final say.
Border control officers and immigration authorities can request additional documentation establishing the traveler’s intention to remain in the Schengen area for a limited time.
Additional list of documents required at the border may include the following:
• A return ticket as proof of the traveler’s intention to depart from Europe
• Proof of subsequent travel
• Financial documentation demonstrating that the Nicaraguan traveler is self-sufficient during their stay in Europe
• Insurance coverage for health care.
