ETIAS Travel Authorization for Chileans
In 2016 the EU announced the creation of a travel authorization program. Like the US ESTA, the EU will create the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) to keep track of travelers, prevent illegal immigration, and safeguard the population from possible threats. By the end of 2025, Chileans who plan to visit the European Union for business or leisure travel will have to apply for an ETIAS visa exemption.

Obtaining the ETIAS visa waiver for Chileans
These are the essential requirements to be eligible for an ETIAS visa waiver. Failure to submit all of these documents could result in the rejection of your application.
The applicant’s passport needs to remain valid for at least three months from the date of entry. At present, citizens of Chile are not required to obtain an entry visa to Europe for periods of up to 90-days. As of 2025, Chilean citizens traveling towards Europe from Chile must have the ETIAS visa waiver that travelers can use for three consecutive years.
The ETIAS visa waiver program for Chilean citizens is designed to increase security and safety while traveling. It also ensures the highest degree of protection.
The ETIAS application is subject to a fee paid in advance. The payment process is an encrypted payment system that requires an acceptable debit or credit card. These ETIAS visa waivers are directly sent to the traveler’s email address.

Europe ETIAS Standards for Chilean citizens
Chilean citizens can apply online to be eligible for ETIAS by filling in online ETIAS registration. The process for registration is fast and straightforward to follow. The Chilean traveler must give basic information and answer several questions about themselves.
The information required for the ETIAS application form includes:
• Full name of the applicant
• The applicant’s nationality
• Country, date, and location of birth
• A physical address
• The contact number of the applicant
• A valid and active email address (where the applicant will be informed about their application, which includes the grant of the ETIAS visa waiver)
• Information about the current Chilean passport with a minimum expiration time of 3 months beyond the planned stay
The European border officials utilize screening procedures to check foreigners before traveling to Europe to enhance security within the Schengen zone. Although an ETIAS travel authorization permits freedom to move within the Schengen zone, the individual applying must inform officials from European authorities when filling out the online application process what Schengen nation they are planning to first enter.
Chilean nationals will also be asked several security-related questions, apart from personal and contact information. These include:
• Complete information and evidence of criminal record
• Employment background
• The history of drug use
• Human trafficking is a factor
• Previous travel to conflict zones
• Have you ever been on a previous trip to Europe
When the payment of the ETIAS application fee is completed and processed, the application is fulfilled, and the person applying is expected to receive their ETIAS within a couple of days (and maybe shorter). It’s important to know that an ETIAS visa waiver can’t be considered a guarantee of admission into the Schengen zone. The final decision is left to officials at European border control.
When you arrive at the airport, you’ll need to provide immigration officials with the following information:
• An original copy of your current ETIAS travel authorization
• The passport that you utilized for the ETIAS application process.
• Other documents that the officers might require to prove that you satisfy all the travel requirements (a return ticket for a plane and proof of having enough money to pay for the duration of your time in Europe as well as health insurance and so on.)
Travel to Europe via ETIAS from Chile
Chilean citizens traveling in Europe using an ETIAS can freely move around the Schengen zone when they have a visa-free period, or until their passport expires or until the expiration date, whichever comes first. Once the visa waiver is approved, the ETIAS visa waiver can be used for a period which is for three consecutive years. Keep in mind that this waiver will become mandatory in 2025. Chileans are permitted to stay in the Schengen zone for up to 90 straight days per 6 months. Be aware that all Chilean nationals must adhere to the new rules for travel. The EU ETIAS visa waiver permits Chilean citizens to travel to any of the European countries of the Schengen agreement. ... Anyone who wants to go from Chile to Europe must apply for ETIAS authorization. That means minors are required to apply for ETIAS. Every application is scrutinized via Border Control of the EU Border Control. It is then compared to some security databases, such as Interpol and ETIAS watchlist, to ensure an extremely secure environment for tourists and residents alike.
