Welcome to Europe
Traveling to Schengen states from Bahamas
Until 2025, citizens from the Bahamas can visit the EU without obtaining a European visa. This is due to visa waiver agreements signed between the Bahamas and Schengen Area.
Bahamians will maintain their visa-free status. However, travelers from all 60 countries with visa exemption, including Bahamians, must sign up online to apply for an ETIAS visa waiver before traveling to Europe from late 2025 onwards.
The European Union will launch an electronic visa waiver system by 2025 for those who reside in 60 or more eligible countries participating in the EU visa-exemption program. The ETIAS is expected to aid in border control and improve security across the Schengen Area. This will be beneficial to both Bahamian tourists and European residents too.
Entry requirements for Bahamian citizens who wish to visit Europe
Bahamian citizens who want to travel in Europe or those who wish to travel within the Schengen Zone, more specifically, have to satisfy all the general requirements for entry. The most essential document Bahamian travelers require at the time of their arrival is a valid passport for at least three months beyond the time of expected stay.
The citizens of the Bahamas can travel to Europe without visas for temporary stays of between 90 days. If the Bahamian citizen wishes to stay within the area for more than 90 days, they’ll need a long-term visa.
Bahamian nationals aren’t permitted to reside, work or even study in Europe until they have applied for permits and visas.
While the ETIAS can be completed online and permit Bahamian travelers to travel to the entire Schengen nation, rules for obtaining visas are different. European visas are typically issued by an embassy or consulate of a specific country. In 2025, after it is established that the ETIAS technology is functional, Bahamian passport holders will be required to comply with requirements of the ETIAS conditions for waiver of visas, which comprise:
• An authentic machine-readable Bahamian passport that has at least three months of validity beyond the planned date of departure to Europe
• An email address that is current where they can receive ETIAS and notifications about their visa waiver request.
• A credit or debit card to cover the issue charges
ETIAS will allow Bahamian citizens the right to stay as long as 90 days within the region during the 180-day timeframe. ETIAS is valid for 3 years unless the passport expires before that.

The ETIAS visa waiver is expected to be available via an online application. Because Bahamians can apply for travel authorization, they’ll be required to fill out an ETIAS application form along with the details of their personal and passport information.
The entire process for obtaining an ETIAS is done online. Thus, Bahamian applicants will cut down on time and stress. They don’t have to visit a consulate or embassy before traveling to Europe. All applicants are required to pay a fee for a visa by using a valid credit card or debit card before submitting the European Visa waiver request.
After approval, ETIAS Visa waivers will be electronically tied to the passport used to make the application once approved. The ETIAS allows the holder multiple entry points to all Schengen member states for three consecutive years.
The citizens of the Bahamas are not required to apply for a Schengen visa to enter all 26 members within Schengen Zone. Bahamas residents must possess an ETIAS visa waiver to enter Europe before the end of 2025 and beyond. Meanwhile, the situation is that Bahamians can travel to the Schengen Area without a visa and show their passports on arriving.
How to Apply for the Visa Waiver
When it is announced that the ETIAS system becomes open for registration, citizens from the Bahamas who want to travel to Europe must apply for the visa waiver. If the person who travels meets the requirements for entry, then they can fill out the ETIAS online application form within 10 or 20 minutes.
The ETIAS form requires the applicant to submit their complete name, birth date, where they were born, their citizenship and gender, and contact information. Additionally, every applicant has to provide information on their passport, including dates, passport numbers, the country of its issuance, and the expiration date.
Before paying the ETIAS visa waiver fee, applicants must be able to answer several security-related questions about their criminal record and health history, as well as whether they’ve traveled into conflict zones.
It is highly recommended to verify all details a Bahamian applicant has filled in on their application before closing the ETIAS Online application. Making sure the information entered in each of the fields is precise with the information printed on the applicant’s passport will help avoid delays in processing the application.
When a Bahamian tourist has checked and submitted the application ETIAS system will review requests by contrasting the information with some security databases, such as Europol and Interpol.
The majority of requests should be handled in less than 24 hours. It is, however, possible that specific ETIAS requests will take longer to review. If an application causes an alarm, it will be reviewed by hand.
Thus, it’s recommended to apply for a visa waiver at least 3 business days before the departure date to allow an adequate processing period.
The applicants will be notified of their visa waiver application via the email address provided on their form. When you have received the ETIAS travel authorization has been approved, the waiver can be linked electronically to the person’s passport.
The traveling person must cross Europe using the same passport as within the ETIAS application. This is particularly important to Bahamian citizens with dual citizenship. In this circumstance, people with dual citizenship should decide which passport they will apply for ETIAS using and ensure that they travel with the identical passport.
The journey from the Bahamas to Europe using ETIAS
Through 2025 Bahamian citizens will be allowed to travel to the European Union with just a valid passport. On arrival, they may be required to disclose information regarding the accommodation they will be staying in and if they have enough money to cover the trip’s expenses. Any national from a third country who visits Schengen Area countries Schengen Area must go through immigration controls.
In 2025, citizens of the Bahamas will require the ETIAS visa waiver before traveling. Travelers must apply for the travel authorization at least 72 hours before the date they plan to depart. This ETIAS travel authorization grants them a period of stay up to 90 days. The authorization may be used multiple times throughout its validity.
