ETIAS Registration Form
The European Commission introduced the European Travel Information and Authorization System in April 2016. ETIAS got its approval in November 2016. On July 5, 2018, European Parliament signed the final agreement to launch the new program. It will be under the supervision of the EU-LISA.
This new program will cross-check traveler information and compare it against several security databases. These security databases include Europol, Interpol, and the Schengen Information System.
ETIAS visa waiver works like the US ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) visa waiver. According to the official sources, the ETIAS system will come alive in November 2025.
The ETIAS application process intends to determine eligibility for citizens of visa-exempt countries. Before traveling to Europe, applicants will need to register for ETIAS. Their submitted data will be prescreened for any health, security, or migration risks before entering the Schengen Area.
ETIAS Online Application Form
You can get the ETIAS application online in a quick and easy process. Each applicant will only need to complete the online registration. Most cases will allow authorization to be granted in a few hours (takes no more than 24 hours)
ETIAS form will require Biometric passports. Biometric passports have security benefits that prevent unauthorized reading or passport information skimming. It is the only official document travelers need to submit for the application form.
Also, you will need an email address, a debit or credit card, and a bank account. While applicants do not need exact flight tickets, the system may still ask for the itinerary.
Experts say that more than 95% should get ETIAS approval. They base their judgment on the experiences of similar ETIAS countries (USA, Canada, Australia). The collection of fingerprints or other biometric data is not necessary.
After the ETIAS registration is submitted and checked, the approved ETIAS is issued. It will be valid for 3 consecutive years.
ETIAS, based upon the US ESTA system, would cover over 30 million citizens worldwide.
These are the citizens who enjoy the benefits of visa-free travel until 2025. The nationals of more than 59 countries are eligible, including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the US, and the United Kingdom. The list could soon include current visa-free travel candidates from Georgia and Ukraine.
In contrast to a 2-year travel permit by US ESTA, ETIAS will be active for 3 consecutive years. After filling in the ETIAS online application form travelers should wait for the email confirmation. The ETIAS approval that applicants receive should include:
- Authorizaation Decision (approval/refusal)
- Name and Surname of the applicant
- Passport Number
- Passport Date of Expiry
- ETIAS number (authorization number)
- Place of issue (post/location where the ETIAS is issued)
- Valid from (date)
- Valid until (date)
- Duration of stay (number of days, months or years)
- Number of entries
- Type/class/category (this may not be relevant for ETIAS)
- Verification feature (Mandatorily affixed digitally signed barcode)
When applying for an ETIAS, applicants from countries that do not require visas will need to submit the following information:
- Full name
- Date & birthplace
- Current address
- Information for parents
- Details about passports and other nationalities
Candidates will need to provide basic information as well as answers to questions about:
- Use of drugs
- Terrorism
- Trafficking
- Travel to conflict zones
- Criminal history
- History of employment
- Information about European trips in the past
- Information about security
False or misleading information may lead to the denial of entry to the Schengen Area. More documentation may be required if an applicant’s application is denied. The applicant will have 96 hours to submit extra documentation. In contrast, the Schengen visas take four weeks for the final decision. The applicant can appeal if denied again.
ETIAS Application requirements:
The main purpose of the ETIAS authorization system is to strengthen Europe’s external borders and prevent all threats. Similar travel authorization systems exist in the USA, Canada, and Australia.
All applicants must have a valid passport and internet access to complete the ETIAS registration. To travel to the Schengen Area, travelers from non-visa-exempt countries must have a valid Schengen visa.
The following are examples of the ETIAS requirements and personal information needed to apply:
- Personal information of the passenger, a member state of intended initial entry
- Background questions about public health risks
- Criminal records
- Information regarding previous refusals to enter or orders to leave the territory
Travelers should be aware that they must answer all security questions honestly. The ETIAS request will be manually reviewed and individually assessed if the system detects an alert or flag.

ETIAS Fees & Payments
All applicants must get ETIAS Europe. To apply for an ETIAS visa waiver, applicants must pay a fee. The ETIAS application will not be processed if the payment has not been made.
After completing the ETIAS Europe form, applicants must pay the ETIAS fee to complete registration. This payment would be made electronically in EUROs with a credit card or other methods. All available payment methods will be considered when developing the EU application payment. At a later stage, the payment options available will be listed.
As a best practice, the application cost should essentially be for the cost recovery and not serve the only purpose of revenue. This means that the fee will be equivalent to a cost associated with the implementation of ETIAS and it will be monitored by extant consular agreements.
The visa waiver application fees usually consist of two parts: administrative fee (ETIAS processing cost) and a general cost of implementing the system. Usually, visa waiver applications cost much less than regular visa applications.
A bank or financial intermediary would manage the payment. The data required to complete the price will only be given to the company that performed the financial transaction. ETIAS would not process the application.
After payment is complete, the ETIAS application will be automatically submitted and evaluated.
The ETIAS application may not process if the payment is declined or unsuccessful. All applicants need to ensure enough funds are available on their cards. Also, to make sure their payment card is not blocked, or there are no problems with internet connectivity.
If a payment gets declined, applicants must contact their bank.
1. The user submits an online payment from outside their country
2. This payment is not typical of the current account pattern.
3. A certain amount of money limits a user and can change the limit at any time.
ETIAS visa - Why is it important?
The European Commission’s communication “Enhancing security within a world of mobility” was presented in September 2016. It addressed the need to maintain mobility while maintaining strict border security. Information sharing between EU institutions, member states, and between the EU with other countries is a significant part of this approach to security.
The European Commission also proposed the creation of an European Travel Information and Authorization System, (ETIAS), as part of the Security Union and the first deliverable from the priority actions identified in the Bratislava Roadmap. The European Border and Coast Guard will manage ETIAS in collaboration with Europol and member states. This will allow advanced security checks and enable the EU to manage its external borders more efficiently.
ETIAS will facilitate border management and checks by coordinating and jointly assessing visa-exempt third country nationals. However, the final decision on whether to grant or deny entry will be made by national border guards.
